the journey

about kim

Kim’s journey in dance began with formal training at the prestigious North Carolina School of the Arts, where she cultivated a strong foundation in ballet. Her passion for movement soon led her to the American Dance Festival, where she explored the expressive world of modern dance. Over the years, Kim has had the privilege of studying with renowned mentors and dance luminaries, including Betty Jones, Chuck Davis, Lisa Zahiya, Puela Lunaris, Rina Orellena, and Chiqui de Jerez. Each of these experiences has profoundly shaped her artistry and deepened her appreciation for dance as a universal language. In 2018, Kim embraced her enduring love for flamenco and belly dance, which have since become her artistic focal points.

She proudly holds teaching certifications from esteemed instructors Rina Orellena in Los Angeles and Puela Lunaris in Jerez, demonstrating her dedication to these vibrant traditions. As a certified SharQui instructor, Kim also brings a fresh, fitness-forward perspective to her classes.

Kim’s teaching philosophy centers on fostering a fun and inclusive dance community where everyone—regardless of experience—can discover the joy of movement. Her classes celebrate the energy, creativity, and connection that dance brings to life. Join Kim to explore the world of dance, build confidence, and celebrate self-expression! Melanya Zerpa is a Venezuelan-born, NYC-raised visual artist, dancer, and entertainer who studies and performs contemporary Raqs Sharqi in the Western NC/Eastern TN area.

Organic, fluid movement and the ability to incorporate a variety of themes, props, costumes, improvisation, and more into her performances, makes Raqs Sharqi her preferred form of movement. For the last decade, Melanya has studied and performed Raqs Sharqi and dances of the SWANA/MENAT region. In this time, she has developed a playful, musical, and fluid stage presence.

Melanya is deeply inspired by exploring non-verbal forms of communication, expression, and connection, and strives to keep harnessing her artistry using the mind-body union and the many forms of Raqs Sharqi as a medium.
